On-call Youth and Adolescent Intensive Services Technician

Major Responsibilities/Tasks

• Assist other program staff in providing a positive, structured, and therapeutic milieu to meet the youth’s emotional, developmental, and educational needs.
• Facilitate approved group activities.
• Prepare and serve meals.
• Conduct safety checks.
• Provide transportation as directed by a supervisor.
• Aid in maintaining sufficient inventory of food and non-food items.
• Aid in maintaining a clean, clutter-free, and trauma-informed work environment.
• Participate in 1:1 intervention to encourage youth’s compliance with program expectations and identify and barriers to successfully completing program expectations including:
• Assist youth in dealing with conflict and expressing themselves in a safe way.
• Provide immediate, therapeutic crisis interventions as necessary.
• Record client nutritional intake, sleep and vitals.
• Follow specific behavioral protocols for clients as directed by the intervention plans and/or a supervisor.
• Maintain sufficient levels of observation according to assigned levels.
• Attend all mandatory trainings on time and as scheduled.
• Keep current on all required documentation (i.e., food handler’s permit, counselor licenses, etc.).
• Complete all required electronic and paper charting, documentation and data entry of clients as outlined in the appropriate KMHS guidelines, manuals, policies and procedures.

Shift Requirements

• Return calls within 2 hours.
• Option to take partial shifts.
• Minimum 2 shifts per month.
• May take respite or extended unpaid leave with supervisor/manager approval.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience: Entry level/ minimum of 1 year (customer service, social services, or behavioral health- preferably with youth).
• Licenses: Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration.

Preferred Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, social services, or behavioral health field.
• Experience: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience) Relevant experience working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness. Experience working with Special Education. Experience with milieu treatment. The capacity to work well with children and families.

Performance Requirements

• Knowledge: Maintain working knowledge and understanding of child development, Maintain a working knowledge and skill in verbal de-escalation as outlined in ProACT and other agency-mandated trainings, Maintain a working knowledge of evidence based practices utilized to serve this population including motivational interviewing and ABA.
• Skills: Ability to remain calm in high-stress situations, Work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team member, Communication - Communicates clearly and concisely, Computer skills - Ability to operate a personal computer, fax machine, printer, and copier proficiently.

Mental/Physical Requirements

• Ability to maintain audio and visual observation at all times, Ability to stand and be mobile for long periods of time, Ability to bend, twist, reach, hold and lift as needed to successfully evade and/or participate in protective holds, Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds, Ability to remain calm and utilize safety training in potentially assaultive client interactions, Ability to move quickly and confidently to assist or intervene when needed in potentially stressful situations, Successful completion of safety training, which includes demonstration of ability to: maintain balance, torso twist, forward bend, pivot, sidestep, forward and backward step, crouch, move to secure limb, knee touch to ground, kneel, get up from floor sitting or kneeling position.
