About the role
The Wardrobe Technician is responsible for a variety of duties within the Wardrobe & Makeup Department. They provide as needed show and rehearsal coverage, assist performers with makeup application and costume pieces, troubleshoot technical issues, and maintain equipment, costumes, and work calls as needed.
Responsibilities
- Execute show cues
- Perform preset duties as well as turnover and post-show duties, including laundry, cleaning, and maintaining dressing rooms and wardrobe areas
- Maintain equipment, costumes, and work calls as needed
- Assist performers with makeup application and costume pieces
- Research and develop on an as needs basis
- Assist in maintaining inventory
- Communicate show notes amongst the HOD Wardrobe, Stage Manager on duty, and Production Manager
- Support supplemental Wardrobe needs for rehearsals, appearances, and gigs
- Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise
- Support systems for the maintenance, cleaning, and organization of workspaces
- Adhere to safety rules and regulations for locality and department
- Support gigs, trainings, rehearsals, and marketing events
- Participate in load-in and load-out and lend assistance to other departments as needed
- Perform all other work-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Work effectively in a team environment
- Prior wardrobe experience with a live theatrical production
- Working knowledge of makeup and makeup application
- Strong communication and time management skills
- A flexible schedule
- Experience hand sewing, using industrial and home sewing machines
- Organizational skills
- Excellent troubleshooting skills, with the ability to handle technical issues swiftly during a live show
- Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show
- Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods
- Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support
- At least 2 years of previous experience, or in a similar environment
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications
- Bachelor’s degree in Costume & Fashion Design or a similar field, or equivalent relevant work experience
- Ability to obtain OSHA 10 course completion card
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate via headset
- Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: climbing, crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs, working with limited to no visibility
