Job Description
Prepares, stores food supplies, equipment, and utensils in refrigerators, cupboards, and other storage areas. Assists cooks and kitchen staff with various tasks as needed, and provides cooks with needed items.
- Washes, peels, and cuts various foods, such as fruits and vegetables, to prepare for cooking or serving.
- Prepares, preps, and cooks food.
- Bakes pre-made pastries like muffins, pastries, and specialty desserts.
- Sets up, cleans, and breaks down workstation.
- Cleans kitchen area including tables, tools, knives, and equipment.
- Maintains food safety and quality by checking and monitoring appliance and food temperatures.
- Adheres to department procedures regarding food service equipment operation.
- Follows hand hygiene and infection control procedures.
- Attends safety meetings, training, and hazard assessments.
- Reports accidents and injuries promptly.
- Complies with Sonesta’s safety and risk management policies.
- Communicates assistance needs during busy periods to the Chef.
- Delivers high-quality customer service and responds to customer needs.
- Handles multiple projects simultaneously.
- Maintains professional, courteous, attentive, helpful, and positive attitude.
- Works cohesively with co-workers to achieve common goals.
- Complies with Sonesta’s policies and procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality of proprietary information.
- Performs other job duties as requested by supervisors/managers.
Qualifications and Skills
- Valid Driver’s License preferred.
- Reading and writing abilities to understand departmental correspondence and complete required documents.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, including dealing with difficult guests.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Able to work quickly without compromising quality.
- Able to work with minimal supervision and maintain high performance.
- Food handlers and TIPS certificates required.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Hotel, customer service-related, and food and beverage experience required.
- One year of previous hotel, customer service, and/or food and beverage experience preferred.
Work Environment
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
- Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period.
- Ability to move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces.
- Ability to move up and down ladders, stairs, and service ramps.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to stand during the entire shift.
Additional Job Information/Anticipated Pay Range
- Base pay offered may vary depending on various factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and job-specific/overall experience.
