About the role

La Casa Psychiatric Health Facility (PHF) is a 16-bed facility providing acute psychiatric treatment to adults 18 and older. Shifts available include Per-Diem and On Call; days vary as needed; hours vary as needed. AM shifts are 7am-3:30pm, PM shifts are 3pm-11:30pm, and NOC shifts are 11pm-7:30am. Minimum compensation is $32.89 hourly.

Responsibilities

  • Hiring, evaluating, scheduling, and assigning duties to Mental Health Workers
  • Coordinating resident care
  • Providing clinical services, including assessing resident physical and psychiatric condition, participating in multidisciplinary treatment planning, performing therapeutic psychiatric and medical tasks, administering medication and treatments, overseeing and assisting with medical/laboratory procedures, and observing, noting, and reporting the effects and side effects of medications
  • Establishing and maintaining a therapeutic relationship with residents
  • Preparing staff time schedules
  • Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings and treatment planning meetings
  • Demonstrating knowledge of management of assaultive behavior techniques and keeping the supervisor informed of resident behavior and condition
  • Notifying the supervisor of residents who are clinical management concerns
  • Observing, recording, and reporting resident social, medical, and psychiatric behavior
  • Demonstrating judgment, decision-making, and initiative
  • Assists in developing self-help skills for residents
  • Responding to co-workers with concern and promoting group morale
  • Continually focusing on assigned tasks and seeking/implementing improvements
  • Protecting residents from behavior that could damage themselves or others
  • Practicing universal precautions at all times
  • Demonstrating knowledge of Telecare’s customers including clients/residents, families, and governmental agencies in all interactions and conduct
  • Attending all assigned in-service education classes
  • Role modeling excellent professional practice
  • Always dressing appropriately and professionally

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience in psychiatric nursing in a skilled nursing facility or acute care setting is preferred
  • Leadership experience is preferred
  • Graduation from a Vocational Nursing/Psychiatric Technician program
  • Current licensure and a valid CPR Certificate
  • Understanding of psychiatric illness and treatment
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications
  • Understanding of behavior management
  • Knowledge of the laws and regulations governing the delivery of long term (and short term when appropriate) mental health services in the State of California
  • Finger printing and receiving clearance from Criminal Justice Department required
