On-Call Field Archaeologist – California and Nevada

About the role

Tetra Tech is seeking On-Call Field Archaeologists for projects in California and Nevada, with potential for work in other states. Positions are part-time, temporary hourly roles with variable hours based on project workload. Pay ranges from $26 to $35 per hour, with travel expenses reimbursable.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct archaeological fieldwork, including surveys, recordation, testing, data recovery, and construction monitoring under supervision.
  • Collaborate with field personnel, directors, and project managers in a team environment.
  • Use GPS units and perform digital photography to collect data.
  • Identify and document cultural resources, preparing DPR 523 and IMACS records.
  • Adhere to internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Operate 4WD vehicles safely in various terrains.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks, including hiking and excavation.
  • Travel to project locations for extended fieldwork.
  • Operate within Tetra Tech's Health and Safety Program.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or project managers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a related field.
  • Completion of an accredited archaeology field school.
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in California or Nevada archaeological fieldwork.
  • Ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and adhere to cultural resource guidelines.
  • Proficiency with GPS units, TerraSync, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with California Department of Parks and Recreation 523 forms and IMACS.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean record.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.

Qualifications

  • Ability to travel frequently for extended fieldwork.
  • Strong technical writing skills for field and post-field documentation.
  • Demonstrated work ethic and attention to detail.

Skills

  • Proficiency with GPS units and software.
  • Experience with field documentation and post-field reports.
  • Knowledge of California Department of Parks and Recreation 523 forms and IMACS.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.

Pay
