About the role

Transform healthcare by diagnosing and treating human disease, illness and injuries while practicing evidence-based medicine. Prescribe medically necessary medications and treatments. Serve on various Carilion and/or hospital committees. Complete necessary documentation for patients' health information records. Deliver high-quality, compassionate medical care.

Responsibilities

  • Examine patients using various medical equipment, instruments and tests.
  • Order or perform various tests, analyses and imaging to provide information on patients' conditions.
  • Diagnose patients' conditions based on examination results, tests and reports.
  • Prescribe and administer drugs, treatments and vaccinations.
  • May perform perinatal care, deliveries, surgeries and related invasive procedures.
  • Work closely with case management, nursing, and the medical staff to ensure all patients have an appropriate plan of care and ongoing care coordination.
  • Support Joint Commission continuous readiness and compliance.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives through collaboration with hospital management, the medical staff, and employees in areas like equipment and supply standardization, medical resource management, and evidence-based medicine.
  • Complete all required documentation timely and accurately.
  • Report births, deaths, and contagious diseases as required.
  • Conduct, cooperate, support, and collaborate on basic and clinical research.
  • Develop and test new medical techniques.
  • Supervise medical treatment of patients.
  • Supervise physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, medical residents, medical students, and/or office staff.
  • Participate in teaching and mentoring activities.

Requirements

This position requires a strong commitment to patient care, evidence-based medicine, and collaboration. Candidates must have a medical degree from an accredited institution, be licensed to practice medicine in the United States, and meet other requirements as outlined by Carilion Clinic.

Skills
