OMAHA KROC CENTER - Pottery Instructor

About the role

The Pottery Instructor will teach pottery classes, develop curriculum and assessments, and build collaborative community partnerships in a Christ-centered atmosphere aligned with The Salvation Army’s mission.

Responsibilities

• Teach pottery classes, including preparation and cleanup.
• Operate the kiln and return finished pieces to participants promptly.
• Design and implement curriculum, assessment rubrics, and lesson plans; provide regular activity reports to the Kroc Camp, Arts, and Education Manager.
• Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships for pottery programming with schools and organizations.
• Participate in recruitment and outreach efforts led by the Fine Arts Coordinator.
• Instruct participants on proper care and use of tools and equipment.
• Attend assigned staff meetings.
• Teach additional classes and workshops as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts preferred or equivalent qualified experience.
• Two years’ teaching experience required; five years preferred.
• Portfolio demonstrating artistic skill and experience in curriculum development.
• Ability to lead and work with children, parents, seniors, and staff.
• Self-starter with initiative and a positive, flexible attitude.
• Educational and child-development philosophy consistent with The Salvation Army’s values.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; English proficiency required; Spanish language skills helpful.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups.
• Exceptional flexibility to manage multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
• Collaborative team player with attention to detail, creative problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
• Basic computer knowledge for payroll, timekeeping, and personal data access via web-based systems.
• Must pass all applicable background checks and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive Salvation Army or personal vehicles on business.
• Must complete Safe from Harm training within 30 days of hire.
• Knowledgeable about kiln use and setup.

Physical Requirements

• Satisfactory speaking, hearing, and vision ability; excellent manual dexterity.
• Lifting, pulling, and pushing materials up to 25 pounds.
• Bending, squatting, walking, and standing for extended periods.

Working Conditions

• Community center environment with light to moderate traffic and noise levels.
• Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions during special events or activities, with moderate to loud noise levels.
