Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed title examinations and analyze mineral, leasehold, royalty, and surface ownership interests.
  • Draft a variety of oil and gas title opinions, including: Drilling Title Opinions, Division Order Title Opinions, Supplemental and Acquisition Title Opinions.
  • Review and interpret deeds, leases, probate documents, conveyances, assignments, easements, and other title-related instruments.
  • Advise clients regarding title defects, curative requirements, and ownership issues.
  • Collaborate with clients, land professionals, and firm attorneys on transactional and operational matters affecting title.
  • Provide practical legal guidance related to exploration, development, acquisitions, and divestitures of oil and gas assets.
  • Manage title projects efficiently while maintaining high-quality work product and responsiveness to client needs.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed and in good standing with a U.S. state bar; Texas licensure preferred or the ability to obtain admission.
  • Approximately 3+ years of experience practicing oil and gas title law.
  • Significant experience preparing and reviewing oil and gas title opinions.
  • Strong knowledge of oil and gas ownership, title examination principles, and real property law.
  • Excellent analytical, research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Able to work independently while effectively collaborating with attorneys and clients.
  • Strong attention to detail and project management capabilities.
  • Preferred: Title experience in Texas and other major producing jurisdictions, exposure to upstream oil and gas transactions, due diligence, and asset acquisitions, experience working directly with energy company clients and land departments.
