About the role

The Office of the Independent Inspector General (OIIG) was created to detect, deter, and prevent corruption, fraud, waste, mismanagement, unlawful political discrimination, and misconduct in the operation of Cook County Government. Under the direction of office management and other senior-level staff, this role conducts investigations primarily related to reported incidents of misconduct and/or operational deficiencies involving Cook County employees, officers, officials, agents, contractors, and other governmental agencies and employees.

This position may also focus on investigation, oversight, auditing, and monitoring of government compliance with laws and policies prohibiting unlawful political discrimination. The position is actively recruited and at-will.

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations into reported incidents of misconduct and/or operational deficiencies.
• Interview complainants, witnesses, victims, and other agency representatives.
• Prepare comprehensive, confidential reports detailing investigation findings.
• Provide testimony in court or before administrative tribunals as required.
• Organize facts, analyze evidence, and develop clear, concise documentation.
• Collaborate with other investigators and staff on investigations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of full-time work experience in the conduct of investigations involving criminal or fraudulent activity, audits, administrative violations, or other matters of potential civil liability.
• OR graduation from an accredited college or university with an advanced degree in Law and four (4) years of full-time work experience practicing law in the fields of civil or criminal litigation.

• Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to abuse, fraud, waste, mismanagement, and criminal or civil misconduct.
• Ability to perform duties discreetly, confidentially, thoroughly, objectively, and judiciously.
• Strong interviewing skills and ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in preparing clear, concise, and accurate written reports.
• Aptitude for organizing facts, analyzing evidence, and developing actionable insights.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other investigators and staff.

Pay

$94,997 yearly.
