OHV Restoration Technician
About the role
The American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the Ridgecrest Field Office at California, is seeking four (4) Off-Highway Vehicle Restoration Technicians to contribute to a variety of projects alongside Bureau of Land Management (B.L.M.) staff.
Responsibilities
- Maintain close interaction with the BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner and Natural Resource Staff to monitor sensitive species and their habitat and plan restoration projects within and adjacent to Off-Highway Vehicle recreation areas.
- Collect data on proposed restoration projects.
- Maintain a GIS database.
- Organize outreach events and training for restoration crews.
- Create and present restoration project proposals with and to BLM staff.
- Aid in other recreation and resource related projects, as assigned.
- Complete inventories, prioritize and coordinate work with staff, and initiate NEPA as needed.
- Coordinate and complete projects on the ground.
- Work with restoration crews and/or volunteers to complete projects.
- Support recreation and natural resource management goals.
Requirements
- U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts.
- Willing and able to represent ACE and the BLM in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
- Ability to be both self-directed/work alone and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
- Valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Ability and willingness to undergo a federal criminal background check is required.
- Willing to undergo and must pass the required two-part criminal history check.
- Personal reliable transportation is required as the duty station is considered remote.
- Ability to work alone/in a small group with minimal supervision in remote settings.
- Experience and/or ability to learn the use of a GPS-enabled tablet.
- Must be able and willing to work outdoors and be capable of lifting 50 lbs.
- Ability to take initiative, work independently, and participate in collaborative efforts.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with resource professionals and the public.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Benefits
- Living Allowance: $875.00/week.
- Housing Assistance: Up to $225 per week.

Schedule
The standard schedule is 40 hours per week and will require some weekend work to do visitor outreach during the busy season. The primary holiday weekends worked will be Friday and Saturday following Thanksgiving, and President's Day weekend. Additional non-holiday weekends may also be required to do outreach and volunteer events.
Pay
$875 - $875 per week
Physical Demands, Work Environment, And Working Conditions
- Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, hiking, carrying, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and hearing.
- Manual dexterity is required for the use of various tools.
- Required to stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and/or crouch.
- Ability to hike over rough terrain, and camp overnight under field conditions.
- Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: Ability to move up to 50 pounds.
- Environmental: Outdoor and indoor conditions. Work environment conditions can change frequently; working under adverse weather conditions and in various climates.
- Noise Environment: Moderate to high noise such as gas-powered chainsaws and other hand and power tools.
- Travel: This position may require domestic travel.
- Environmental Conditions/Hazards: The ACE member(s) may encounter environmental conditions/hazards including extreme heat or cold, rocky terrain, swamp or wetland conditions, biting insects, and potentially dangerous wildlife.
- Vehicle and Equipment Use/Safety: If a vehicle is required for the accomplishment of the duties, one will be provided by the BLM or ACE. Any tools required for the accomplishment of the duties will be provided by the BLM. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), typically provided by the BLM, will be mandatory for any activity that requires it. Strict adherence to BLM and ACE equipment training, certification, and safety protocols is required.
