OHE General Foreman

About the role

The OHE General Foreman leads crews in completing daily tasks related to the placement of overhead electrical cables, ensuring crew safety, tracking employee hours, conducting safety briefings and inspections, and coordinating project utility locations. This position requires extensive knowledge of overhead electrical distribution systems, crew management, troubleshooting, storm crew coordination, scheduling, and resource allocation. General Foremen read project blueprints, oversee production efficiency, provide training, and prioritize crew safety while coordinating with internal and external departments for logistic support.

Responsibilities

• Obtain all necessary materials, permits, and licenses for each job.
• Oversee project work, ensuring quality and timeliness.
• Comply with safety standards, procedures, and work practices according to MasTec or customer requirements, whichever is stricter.
• Facilitate daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections, ensuring understanding of safety briefings.
• Perform aerial tasks, such as new cable installs, pole transfers, strand building, cable hanging, and lashing (only when not needed as a Qualified observer).
• Place overhead electrical cables and connect wires to terminals, attaching/detaching hardware to buildings or poles.
• Coordinate and supervise daily crew tasks related to digging and product placement.
• Perform construction work, including digging holes, placing cable, air pipe, and inner duct work in conduit systems or open excavations.
• Climb utility poles and/or use aerial lift trucks to place cables per system design.
• Drive, haul, and/or operate equipment to assist crews in completing work.
• Train new hires and trainees.
• Call in utilities located at each project site.

Requirements

• Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
• 7 years of experience in overhead electrical distribution systems.
• 3 years of supervisory experience.
• Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience, including extensive supervision and training of skilled labor.
• OSHA 20 Certification.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This role operates in a field environment, routinely requiring extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Work occurs in inclement weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. The position is physically active, requiring the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Essential functions include:

• Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships.
• Precise hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
