Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Enforce all State and local laws and University regulations and ordinances.
- Patrol campus grounds and perimeter on bicycle/foot and/or in a patrol vehicle to ensure a safe environment; including: traffic enforcement, emergency response and law enforcement.
- Provide for the delivery of emergency services to campus.
- Receive, investigate and complete reported complaints from the campus community, and other investigative services as requested.
- Criminal prosecutions with federal, state and/or local police agencies and with prosecutors' office(s) for criminal incidents occurring within the university community, including testifying in court.

- Coordinate criminal prosecutions with federal, state and/or local police agencies and with prosecutors' office(s) for criminal incidents occurring within the university community, including testifying in court.
- Maintain proper public relations and interact with internal and external community service agencies.
- Afford assistance with crime prevention and community policing programs and projects as needed.
- Transport personnel and/or funds or other valuable items as assigned.
- Initiate police action when necessary.
- Arrest offenders.
- Provide emergency medical response.
- Properly maintain, use and operate facilities, materials supplies and assigned equipment.
- Regulate vehicle and pedestrian traffic at special events or as otherwise necessary to maintain orderly flow.
- Report unsafe or potentially hazardous conditions and any damage or irregularity of buildings, grounds, equipment or vehicles to a supervisor.
- Report promptly through the chain-of-command any violation of University wide policies and administrative procedures, criminal statutes or any other misbehavior committed by another employee of the department.
- Fulfill the responsibilities as a Campus Security Authority as outlined in the Clery Act.
- Complete appropriate forms or reports as required by law or policy, including properly documenting actions, observations, and crimes.
- Adhere to rules, regulations, orders and departmental procedures and policies, including the enforcement of rules, regulations, orders, policies, and procedures among junior officers and employees.
- Work such hours and perform such tasks as are assigned by a ranking officer.
- Perform related Departmental duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a valid Driver's license is required.
- Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards Training Certification, or certifiable status is required.
- Excellent Oral, Written, And Interpersonal Communication Skills Are Required.
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations which may not be familiar is required.
- Ability to work under pressure, occasionally for long periods of time is required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays is required.
- Ability to work with appropriate safety related gear including a bullet proof vest, firearms, handcuffs, etc. is required.
- Ability to physically and mentally perform the essential duties of the job is required.
- Ability to effect and arrest and subdue and search suspects and prisoners is required.
- Ability to drive department vehicles is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a campus or police officer experience is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of computers is preferred.
- An Associate degree is preferred.
Additional Information
Salary: CP 01 = $27.79 an hour/$57,807 annually.
Appointment Percentage 100%.
