About the role

This position is located in the Kalaupapa Settlement in Kalawao County, on the Island of Molokai. Kalaupapa is a severely isolated community surrounded by the ocean on three sides and 2,000-foot cliffs on the fourth side. Access into the Settlement is by a small 5-8 passenger commuter airplane or on foot or mule down a 26-switchback trail down the sea cliffs. Ocean access is limited to only a few months in the summer when the sea is calm enough to allow boats to dock.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journey level clerical work involving a variety of complex clerical assignments, e.g., those that involve a number of steps/processes and/or referral to a number of different sources and require the use of some judgment to determine appropriate disposition;
  • Prioritize work and carry out assignments independently, in accordance with general instructions and established policies and procedures;
  • Supervise and participate in performing moderately complex clerical work;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Legal Authorization To Work: Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Basic Experience: Six months of work experience which demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and arithmetic; the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions; write simply and directly; and compare words and numbers quickly and accurately.
  • Clerical Experience: One (1) year of work experience which involved the performance of a variety of clerical tasks and demonstrated knowledge of office practices and procedures, and the ability to carry out procedures in clerical work systems, and operate various kinds of office equipment and technologies.
  • Supervisory Experience and/or Aptitude: Possession of Supervisory Experience and/or Aptitude is required for some positions. Supervisory Aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects of supervision, e.g., by serving as a group or team leader, or by the completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; and/or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
