About the role
The Village of Canastota seeks a full-time Office Assistant I to assist the Clerk/Treasurer and Deputy Clerk/Treasurer with clerical and accounting tasks in the Village office.
Responsibilities
- Assist with clerical and accounting tasks
- May perform bookkeeping and accounting duties
- Use computers, including Windows, Microsoft Office, and accounting software
- Manage payroll and accounting software
- Provide customer service and maintain good relations
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Solve problems and analyze situations
- Maintain organization and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Hold a valid New York State Notary Public license (preferred but not required)
Requirements
- High school graduate or high school equivalency diploma
- Preference for municipal bookkeeping/accounting experience
- Proficiency with computers, including Windows, Microsoft Office, and accounting software
- Proficiency with payroll and accounting software
- Customer service/relations experience
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Problem solving and analytical skills
- Self-motivated and results-oriented
- Organized and able to multitask
- Preferred but not required: Notary Public license
