New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award-winning not-for-profit agency in Midtown Manhattan dedicated to serving children and families with medical complexities, disabilities, chronic illnesses and behavioral challenges.
About the role
This position supports NAC's mission to provide the highest quality of care by complying with regulatory guidelines and meeting child welfare industry standards. The Office Assistant/Family Support Specialist assists the Office Management Department in all aspects of office maintenance and administration.
Responsibilities
- Appropriately and consistently document and communicate feedback regarding the provision of support services and recreation activities.
- Assist recreation staff with overseeing trips, groups, and special events.
- Support project-related office requests, including organization and data collection of donations (clothing and toy drives), and supporting NAC's gift, coat, or food drives.
- Accompany children on NAC vans for transportation to and from clients' homes.
- Assist in supervising children who present with challenging behaviors and related activities.
- General office maintenance and minor repairs, including light carpentry and painting.
- Run bank errands.
- Manage a mid-to-large phone console; work with a team and/or independently under pressure.
- Follow written and oral instructions effectively and communicate within a team setting.
- Perform additional responsibilities in accordance with agency needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1-2 years of reception experience in an office environment with a pleasant phone manner.
- Experience in mailroom management, inventory receiving/stocking, and office organization.
- Experience working with children, ideally with children with disabilities or medical conditions and their families. Prior experience in child welfare is helpful.
- Interest in servicing clients in the social services industry, particularly those in low socioeconomic status.
- Able to lift items or equipment up to 20 pounds (exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently).
- Must be able to work late afternoons/evenings and some Saturdays.
- Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodation.
- Computer literate, detail-oriented, and able to work well with the public.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
Pay
$40,000 - $43,000
Schedule
Full-time, with occasional late afternoons/evenings and some Saturdays.
