OEM R&D Senior Engineer

This role is part of the Panelboards chapter, primarily supporting the Develop & Care – OEM Agile Team in Bloomfield, CT. The work model for this position is hybrid.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects through a Stage-Gate development process from ideation through launch, driving the achievement of assigned targets (quality, time, scope, cost) and managing risks.
• Ensure projects meet customer needs, business standards, and program/product requirements, including functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability, regulatory, and safety requirements.
• Execute designs using solid modeling software (PTC Creo / Windchill) to create models, assemblies, detailed drawings, and BOMs for designs, which may include plastic, stamped metal, and electrically conductive parts. Validate designs through performance testing.
• Maintain recognized expertise in a specific area by integrating the latest developments in technologies, tools, and methodologies into your work.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the chapter, including the development of new capabilities, skills, technical knowledge, performance, and culture.
• Act as the first point of contact in Research and Development for specific product-related issues and maintenance.
• Identify, propose, and implement innovative solutions.

Requirements

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or a similar educational background with 5+ years of experience in R&D or a related field.
• Experience in mechanical design, including 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation using PTC Creo or similar tools, and engineering analysis.
• Enjoy solving technical problems and developing products & solutions in the electrification market, such as circuit breakers, panelboards, or switchboards, including for the Data Center (DC) Market.
• Skilled in understanding and adapting to dynamic customer needs, organizing work for yourself and an extended cross-functional team, and effectively communicating complex information with diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing.
• Foster a growth mindset, focusing on continual learning and improvement.
• Comfortable operating in a dynamic agile environment focused on delivering value to internal & external customers.
• Able to communicate in English.
• Able to travel domestically & internationally as required.
• Valid US work authorization; must not require sponsorship for an employment visa by ABB at any time in the future.
