Job Summary

This position will provide and administer occupational physical therapy to patients and residents in accordance with physician orders and plan of care under the direction and supervision of the Director of Clinical Services/Clinical Manager. Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain professional, legal, and ethical standards of practice for occupational therapy as defined by the AOTA and State Practice Act
  • Ensure service and operational excellence of all assigned activities to deliver quality services and/or outcomes required to meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Perform initial patient examination, evaluation, interpretation of referrals, and create the initial plan of care for each patient and revise as necessary
  • Create and maintain a patient record for each patient treatment
  • Assess and re-evaluate each patient’s treatment according to state or federal required intervals, whichever is more stringent, and adjust the treatment plan as needed
  • Coordinate discharge plans and decisions with the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
  • Demonstrate knowledge and appropriate application of precautions and contraindications to occupational therapy treatment procedures and modalities
  • Complete documentation according to facility policies including timeliness and medical necessity support
  • Have primary responsibility for occupational therapy care rendered by the COTA for all patients/clients for whom they are the therapist of record. In doing so:
  • Delegate appropriate portions of the treatment plan and program to the COTA consistent with the COTA's education, training, and experience
  • Must be always accessible by telecommunication to the COTA while the COTA is treating patients/clients for whom they are the therapist of record
  • Provide supervision of the COTA as required by State Practice Act
  • Provide supervisory conferences and visits as required by State Practice Act and respond to a COTA's request for additional supervisory visits for a re-examination
  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited educational program in occupational therapy
  • Licensed in the state in which they will be practicing
  • Not be excluded or sanctioned from state or federal programs
  • Demonstrate professional attitude and appearance
  • Proficient administrative and communication skills within the department and facility and company
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, and equipment used in the practice of their discipline
  • Display working knowledge of multidisciplinary practice scopes in the Outpatient, ALF, ILF, and/or LTC setting
  • Thorough knowledge of all payer source documentation and payment requirements
  • Ability to use analytical skills to develop outcome-driven solutions
  • Prior EMR/computer experience
