In this role, you will assess functional abilities, develop personalized treatment plans, and guide patients through therapeutic activities to improve mobility, strength, and coordination. Your expertise, encouragement, and individualized approach will make a meaningful impact on their recovery journey. Work locations include UHS Wilson Medical Center (Johnson City, NY) and UHS Binghamton General Hospital (Binghamton, NY). This position may require floating across multiple UHS facilities; your recruiter and hiring manager will clarify expectations during the interview process.

Schedule

This is a per diem position, with hours assigned on an as-needed, agreed-upon basis by your manager.

Pay

$37.00 - $55.50 per hour, depending on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Comprehend, interpret, and follow medical prescriptions for Occupational Therapy.
  • Apply accepted principles, methods, and procedures of measurement, prediction, and evaluation tests to assess patient’s strengths and limitations, and assist patient to achieve objective short and long-term goals.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of side effects and complications of services provided.
  • Administer and interpret clinical occupational therapy services for assigned patients; adjust treatments according to patient's response to planned protocol.
  • Maintain accurate records of each patient's treatment, progress, and/or regression according to the Service Delivery Standard using paper or electronic systems; ensure records meet criteria established by reimbursement and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital information.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, their families, and other staff personnel; participate in patient care conferences with other professionals involved in case management.
  • Provide patient/family education as needed.
  • Participate in planning decisions for patient's post-discharge placement; make appropriate referrals and follow up to ensure proper placement and programming; interface with vendors to provide needed durable medical equipment.
  • Provide direction to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA), departmental support staff, departmental clerical staff (as duties relate to treatment), occupational therapy students, and volunteers.
  • Participate in departmental and organizational initiatives for performance improvement (PI).
  • Meet defined individual and departmental productivity targets as defined by clinical service areas.
  • Comply with proper hand hygiene protocols to ensure patient safety.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of occupational therapy, with Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • Possession of a NYS license or eligibility to be licensed as an occupational therapist.
  • CPR certification within first 3 months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Clinical experience in a hospital-based setting.
  • National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) Certified.
