About the role

The Per Diem Occupational Therapist is responsible for assessing patients' strengths and weaknesses, devising treatment plans, and maintaining patient confidentiality. Key duties include utilizing clinical knowledge to implement a treatment plan, and offering positive encouragement to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive evaluations, assessments, and interventions for patients with post-surgical and non-surgical Upper Extremity diagnoses.
  • Fabricates custom orthoses for patients with various orthopedic upper extremity diagnoses.
  • Collects and records patient care data, following department policies and standards of practice.
  • Prepares for evaluations, obtains patient histories, researches unfamiliar diagnoses, selects and administers tests, synthesizes evaluation results, establishes treatment plans, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, assesses and modifies the plan of care, identifies needs for consultations, and completes discharge plans.
  • Provides education and training to patients and their support systems.
  • Attends and presents at facility-level in-services.
  • Promotes JAG PT in the community through lectures and presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in occupational therapy.
  • Doctorate degree preferred.
  • Licensed Occupational Therapist.
  • Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) preferred, but not required.
  • One plus years of experience working in an outpatient hand therapy center.
  • Completed state-regulated CEU requirements in appropriate state (NY, NJ).
  • Valid CPR license.
  • Experience with EMR software preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong clinical decision-making skills.
  • One plus year(s) professional OT experience.
  • Excellent work ethic and dedication to patient success.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Works as a team member and individually with minimal supervision.
  • Maintains a positive, professional demeanor at all times.

Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Hand Therapy screens/evaluations, treatments, and orthosis fabrication.
  • Experience with therapeutic activities, ADLs/IADLs, rehabilitation equipment prescription and training.
  • Ability to provide data, note writing using Prompt EMR for all treatments provided.
  • Knowledge of reimbursement systems and their impact on patient care.
