Responsibilities

• Interacts professionally with patients/families; treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
• Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
• Effectively and appropriately communicates with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers, demonstrating customer service excellence through positive language, appropriate responses, and constructive problem-solving techniques.
• Performs appropriate assessments on all patients as related to the therapy requested and provided, including reassessments as per policy (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and general patient population).
• Supervises and delegates care provided by certified occupational therapy assistants, therapy technicians, aides, students, and other support personnel, ensuring compliance with licensing laws, state regulations, and practice standards.
• Administers treatment involving physical agent modalities using equipment such as moist packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps, and ultrasound machines.
• Performs therapy interventions utilizing standard occupational therapy techniques and skills appropriate for the patient’s age and condition.
• Evaluates, fits, and adjusts prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommends modifications.
• Plans, prepares, and carries out individually designed programs of treatment to maintain, improve, or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain, and prevent physical dysfunction in patients.
• Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates its effectiveness, including family in teaching as appropriate.
• Establishes a plan of care tailored to patient problems, involving the patient according to their capabilities and desires.
• Identifies and documents goals, anticipated progress, and plans for reevaluation.
• Plans and/or assists with patient discharge from therapy services and treatment settings, providing information on adaptive equipment and support programs.

Requirements

• Able to maintain high awareness of patient satisfaction and teamwork.
• Strong attention to detail and adaptability to perform well under pressure in a stressful environment.
• Flexibility to work as needed for appropriate departmental coverage.
• Basic computer knowledge; proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Proficient time management skills.
• Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English to perform essential job functions, especially regarding patient or employee safety. Additional languages preferred.

Qualifications

• Degree from an Occupational Therapy Program, required.
• Current Occupational Therapy License as required by the state of practice.
• National Board Certification for Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within the time frame specified in facility policy.
• 1 year of experience preferred.
