About the Role

Join UChicago Medicine, a world-class academic healthcare system, as an Occupational Therapist in the Acute and Hospital at Home program. This role involves providing occupational therapy services and assessments to patients upon referral, including in patients' home settings at the Hyde Park campus and surrounding areas. You will perform clinical care, program development, and supervise patient care rendered by technicians and OT students. This position offers the opportunity to work with a wide range of patients and complex clinical presentations in a collaborative, academically oriented environment with strong mentorship and professional development.

This role is eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $1,500 and maintains a collaborative partnership with the renowned Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, providing access to advanced learning opportunities and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct evaluations using appropriate tests and measurements to determine occupational therapy problems, functional levels, and recommended treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to establish patient disposition.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and apply patient care protocols addressing occupational, psychosocial, and developmental needs of neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.
  • Include patient goals in the care plan and adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities as needed.
  • Develop occupational therapy interventions in collaboration with the patient/family, referring practitioner, and treatment team goals.
  • Competently perform appropriate occupational therapy techniques and procedures.
  • Ensure continuity of care through timely and effective written and verbal communication with team members and other treating disciplines, particularly when planning absences.
  • Attend rounds, conferences, and clinics as assigned, providing patient updates and discharge recommendations.
  • Identify and recommend necessary patient care equipment prior to discharge and assist with procurement as appropriate.
  • Accurately document evaluations, progress notes, and all procedures performed within established timeframes.
  • Complete compliant, timely, and accurate patient billing at the end of each day.
  • Instruct patients and families in home exercise programs and provide education on therapy diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plans.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved occupational therapy school.
  • Current occupational therapy license in the State of Illinois (or eligibility to practice) and NBCOT registered.
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is age-specific/appropriate for the types of patients served.
  • Basic computer skills to access operations and patient data.
  • Appropriate interpersonal skills to enable positive interactions with patients, families, team members, referral sources, and outside contacts.

Position Details

Full Time (1.0 FTE), Monday - Friday, 8-hour shifts with one weekend every 4 weeks. Work location includes Hyde Park and surrounding areas.

The pay range reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected for the position, based on full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and current market data.
