Responsibilities
- Affirms assessments of clients/patients/residents and designs occupational therapy treatments.
- Supports clients/patients/residents in enhancing their ability to perform tasks relevant to their lives.
- Conducts evaluations and implements appropriate occupational therapy programs for clients/patients/residents with functional, cognitive, or behavioral impairments.
- Documents client/patient/resident information for evaluation and modifies therapeutic plans as necessary.
- Provides education to clients/patients/residents to improve their understanding and functional outcomes.
- Utilizes current research in daily treatment practices and incorporates knowledge of age-related treatments and evaluations.
- Treats individuals across various ages and diagnoses, focusing on post-acute, long-term care, and home health care environments.
Requirements
- Appropriate education level required for licensure in the state(s) of practice as an Occupational Therapist.
- Must be licensed in the state(s) of practice as Occupational Therapist.
- Preferred certification through the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
- Valid driver's license may be required depending on facility location.
- Must obtain and maintain required department-specific competencies and certifications.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within the first 60 days of employment.
- New graduates in the process of testing with the board may be considered with a temporary license in the states of South Dakota and Iowa.
Qualifications
- Licensed Occupational Therapist in the state(s) of practice.
- NBCOT certification preferred.
