Occupational Therapist
About the role
We are seeking a forward-thinking Occupational Therapist who excels at assessing patients’ strengths and weaknesses and devising creative but effective treatment plans. Therapists must practice discretion and maintain patient confidentiality while operating in a high-energy, positive-thinking environment. You will utilize your training and skills to aid patients in healing, recovering, improving pain levels/tolerance, and maximizing functional independence.
The ideal applicant will have comprehensive knowledge of Hand Therapy screens/evaluations, treatments, and orthosis fabrication. Experience in Hand Therapy is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Performs comprehensive evaluations, assessments, and interventions for patients with post-surgical and non-surgical Upper Extremity diagnoses.
- Fabricates custom orthoses for patients with various orthopedic upper extremity diagnoses.
- Collects and records patient care data following the format and guidelines of the patient care service, regulatory agencies, and third-party payers, including initial evaluations, daily notes, reassessments/progress reports, discharge plans, and communication with team members.
- Records daily billing and follows department guidelines for productivity.
- Prepares for evaluations by obtaining patient history, researching unfamiliar diagnoses, selecting and administering tests and measures, and synthesizing results to formulate diagnoses, goals, prognosis, and plans of care.
- Establishes and modifies treatment plans based on evaluation results, goals, and best practices in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, patients, and their support systems.
- Assesses and reassesses the need for modifications to the plan of care and goals, identifying the need for consultations or referrals to other healthcare professionals or services.
- Initiates and completes discharge plans, providing education and training to patients and their support systems.
- Provides functional training, including therapeutic activities, ADLs/IADLs, rehabilitation equipment prescription, and training.
- Performs musculoskeletal interventions, including therapeutic exercise, joint mobilization, and modalities.
- Documents all treatments using Prompt EMR and oversees support staff, including COTAs and OT aides.
- Attends the annual JAG PT Billing and Coding seminar and presents one facility-level in-service annually.
- Promotes JAG PT in the community through lectures and presentations.
- Demonstrates respectful interactions with patients, colleagues, and others.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree required; Doctorate degree preferred.
- Licensed Occupational Therapist.
- Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) preferred but not required.
- 1+ years of experience working in an outpatient hand therapy center preferred.
- Completed state-regulated CEU requirement in NY, NJ, or appropriate state.
- Valid CPR License.
- Experience/knowledge with EMR software is preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong clinical decision-making skills.
- 1+ year(s) of professional OT experience.
- Excellent work ethic and dedication to patient success.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work as a team member and individually with minimal supervision.
- Maintains a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
