Occupational Therapist/ Asst Tech Specialist - Hillsboro School District- 26/27 School Year

About the role

This position evaluates and provides occupational therapy services to children who have mental and/or physical disabilities and who are on a current Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or an Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP).

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with parents and staff in support of the total educational program.
  • Attend meetings related to caseload.
  • Evaluate children to identify the need for occupational therapy services and type/level of service.
  • Interpret data to design a treatment plan.
  • Re-evaluate plan on an annual basis via IEP or IFSP.
  • Reevaluate eligibility as needed.
  • Implement treatment plan for individuals or groups.
  • Provide training to instructional assistants and others within the educational plan.
  • Maintain accurate records of students evaluated and served, including assessment results, IEP/IFSP progress, and other documentation or reports as needed.
  • Confer with other professional and general staff members to coordinate, schedule, and implement occupational therapy goals and objectives within the educational plan.
  • Serve as a resource for medically related information for parents, school staff, and teachers.
  • Consult and collaborate with teachers and other specialists regarding appropriate motor activities, self-help skills, sensory needs, adaptations, and special equipment or assistive devices, as necessary.
  • Maintain communication with other professionals, general staff members, parents, and other public and private agencies (e.g., Childrens Services Division, Shriners) related to the childs needs, progress, and safety.
  • Train special education and general education staff, parents, and other team members on specific interventions.
  • Fabricate and adapt specialized materials and devices to assist children in participating in their education.
  • Complete all district and state reporting requirements, including documentation of services provided using one of the approved platforms (such as ecWeb or SPED).
  • Perform duties related to the operation of the occupational therapy department, such as maintaining inventory and ordering supplies or equipment.
  • Keep current standards of practice to provide the best service to the child, and maintain professional growth and development.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid state of Oregon Occupational Therapy license.
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of two years experience working with children.
  • Affiliate Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certification through RESNA (Rehabilitation Engineering Assistive Technology Society of North America), preferred.
  • Valid Drivers License; available transportation and proof of auto insurance.

Qualifications

  • Confer regularly with immediate supervisor.
  • Be proficient in the use of computer and internet-based applications, including but not limited to email, internet software, Google Suite, and word processing (MS Word).
  • Be able to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written reports including OT assessments, as well as parent and staff training on topics related to the field of occupational therapy, such as self-regulation, sensory-processing, and fine motor and adaptive skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff, administration and community partners.

NWRESD offers a competitive compensation package, including a salary schedule based on FTE (1.0 FTE - 8 hours per day - 192 day calendar). Compensation is per negotiated contract, Licensed Salary Schedule FTE: 1.0 FTE - 8 hours per day - 192 day calendar.

Schedule

THIS POSITION WILL WORK 0.60 FTE AS AN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST AND 0.40 FTE AS AN ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST**
