Requirements

• B.S. or M.S. degree from accredited occupational therapy school
• Current licensure in the applicable state
• CPR certification in Basic Life Support, Level C

Responsibilities

• Adhere to general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building
• Follow hospital and departmental policies and procedures
• Contribute to the overall quality of services and stay informed about changes in policies and procedures
• Provide patient care assessment and treatment, ensuring evaluations and treatments are comprehensive, functional, and according to the standard of practice
• Use sound professional judgment in interpreting evaluation results and establishing realistic treatment plans with goals
• Encourage patients and significant others in setting goals and recognize/respond to changes in the patient's physiologic state
• Recommend the next level of care and ensure quality patient outcomes
• Supervise support staff assisting with patient care by providing direction and feedback
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including evaluations, progress notes, discharge notes, patient/family education, charges, and departmental statistics
• Ensure documentation is legible and patient records are maintained in a systematic order
• Meet department financial and productivity standards by understanding budget expectations and maintaining productivity
• Adjust individual schedules to meet the needs of patients and the department
• Participate in process management to optimize quality and efficiency of services by identifying opportunities and communicating progress/barriers to supervisor
• Research and suggest evidence-based best practices to improve quality of patient care
• Promote professional development and education of other healthcare workers, conduct in-service training programs, and stay updated on changes in the profession
• Share clinical expertise with other therapists, student affiliates, and healthcare professionals
• Communicate effectively in a professional and timely manner with patients, physicians, staff, and external customers
• Promote an open atmosphere of communication and share information learned from seminars
• Inform supervisor of issues and resolutions to potential problems
• Provide appropriate patient care in accordance with age/developmental guidelines
• Demonstrate age/developmentally specific knowledge, skills, and abilities for the patients served
• Maintain competence related to age/developmentally specific patient care by regularly updating knowledge of growth, development, and the aging process
