About the role
The Occupational Therapist at Carilion Clinic works in acute care settings, providing individualized treatment programs to patients based on their developmental and/or chronological age and medical diagnoses. They also coordinate patient care and communicate with various healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities
- Confirm and interpret physician referrals, perform patient assessments, and plan and implement individualized treatment programs.
- Provide patient care based on physician referral and age-appropriate assessment, considering the patient’s developmental/chronological age and medical diagnoses.
- Document in the patient’s medical record and complete other patient care-related forms in compliance with regulatory agencies and department/hospital policies and procedures.
- Supervise Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants (COTAs) as provided by state licensure/practice standards and federal regulations.
- Coordinate patient care and clinical activities through written and/or verbal communication with patients, families, therapists, Clinical Team Leaders, managers, physicians, and other members of the health care team.
- Participate in other patient care and departmental/professional activities as requested/assigned, including but not limited to presenting/attending in-services, performance improvement, program development/evaluation, new employee orientation, committee membership, peer review, and attending staff meetings.
- Supervise Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants (COTAs) as provided by state licensure/practice standards and federal regulations.
- Orient new employees and may provide guidance to volunteers, students, support, or contract staff.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in occupational therapy from an accredited occupational therapy program required.
- Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Licensed to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- AHA BLS-certified (from a Carilion approved program) within six months of employment.
