About the role

The Occupational Health Nurse is a licensed health care professional responsible for developing, interpreting, and administering employee health and wellness services and supporting organizational safety programs. Strategically leads and provides consultative guidance on occupational health issues.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective occupational safety and health programs are maintained with external support from health care providers, insurers, community health and regulatory agencies.
  • Work closely with Human Resources and Safety to ensure compliance with regulatory and Federal requirements.
  • Work in partnership with Access HR and Team Leaders for all restrictions and accommodations, comparing task demands and written restrictions while being mindful of Associate safety.
  • Review Physical Capacity Profile assessment for all Associates changing positions and new hires starting new jobs, communicating individual’s fitness for duty to Human Resources in a timely manner.
  • Lead on-site First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogen teams. Coordinate meetings, schedule and assure proper training.
  • Maintain inventory in the clinic for minor First Aid and non-rigid braces for use as needed.
  • Provide case management for occupational injuries, and integrated disability management as the liaison between associates, department managers, health care providers and insurers to minimize worker’s compensation / disability costs and lost-time work.
  • Minimize absenteeism and health care costs by on-site provision of professional care for minor illnesses and injuries.
  • Provides guidance on ergonomic issues related to workplace and workstations.
  • Manages Physical Capacity Profile assessments. Maintains PHI and medical records. Lead Pandemic responder.
  • Plant Operations are 24 hours a day for most of the year.
  • The position requires the incumbent to flex schedule to meet demands of this workforce on short notice. Examples might be response to injuries, training, ect on nights and weekends in person or via other remote communications.

Requirements

  • Education: Required: Associate Degree in Nursing. Bachelor’s Degree in nursing preferred
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 yrs. Experience providing nursing treatment in an occupational setting required.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Required: Knowledge in application of Worker’s comp disability law in the state of Nebraska, FMLA law, OSHA compliance and regulatory health surveillance. Effective listening and verbal communication skills. Planning and organizational skills. Problem solving, decision making and analysis skills. Proficiency using MS word, Excel, and Power Point. Ability to learn and apply new applications. Strong work initiative. Clerical competencies associated with data entry, word processing, filing, organizing files, scheduling training, coordinating activities and planning. 10hr OSHA training
  • Supervision: May be required to take a leading role, such as assigning activities to other Associates who perform work that is similar or closely related to this position (less than 50% of the time).
