About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience to join a new and growing team. CHOC is opening a Special Delivery Unit in Fall of 2026, and we are looking for OB technicians ready to be part of this innovative department. As part of the comprehensive fetal care vision, the Special Delivery Unit (SDU) will allow families with high-risk babies and low-risk mothers to receive fetal intervention and deliver in the same location where their baby will receive specialized care after delivery. The SDU will include triage, LDRP rooms, and operating rooms.

Working with an interdisciplinary team, OB technicians will assist in the care and treatment of the maternal population during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum, including groundbreaking fetal intervention procedures. The role requires ensuring quality care is provided according to policies and procedures, assisting in both the operating room and delivery room as needed, and maintaining a focus on family-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the care and treatment of maternal patients during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum, including fetal intervention procedures.
  • Ensure quality care is provided according to policies and procedures.
  • Assist in both the operating room and delivery room within the scope of practice.
  • Work collaboratively with the surgical team to set up and clean between cases.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum one (1) year of OR experience in OB specialty.
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military training.
  • Able to communicate professionally in English; work calmly under pressure; accept direction; think critically; work independently; problem-solve; organize and prioritize workload.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal, collaboration, and organization skills.
  • Attention to detail, vigilance, and composure in stressful situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience in fetal procedures.
  • College coursework with an Associate or Bachelor’s degree.
  • Certified Surgical Tech and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Specialized skills in critical thinking, judgment, and problem-solving.

  • Strong critical thinking, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in bending, carrying objects, climbing, keyboard use, repetitive motion, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, squatting/kneeling/crawling, standing, talking/hearing, twisting, walking, and wrist position deviation.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Medium to high energy level.
  • Lift and carry 40-50 lbs.
  • Push/pull ±150-200 lbs (e.g., patients on a bed or stretcher).
  • Lateral transfer of 150-200 lbs (e.g., patients).
  • Constant lifting (67% or more) from floor to waist level and waist level and above.
  • Frequent lifting (36-66%) from floor to waist level and waist level and above.
  • Sensory requirements: color discrimination, depth perception, far vision, hearing, near vision.
  • Environmental exposure to airborne communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, dust, extreme noise levels, extreme temperatures, radiation, and uneven surfaces or elevations.

Pay

Pay Range:

  • Minimum: $24.25 per hour
  • Midpoint: $32.12 per hour
  • Maximum: $39.99 per hour

Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, and position requirements.
