About the Role
This position supports Louisiana Bridge Builders by performing a variety of tasks involving physical labor, training, and site operations in Lake Charles, LA.
Responsibilities
- Provides clear instructions and updates to superiors and laborer team members.
- Sets up, maintains, and removes temporary work zones including warning signs, traffic cones, stop/slow paddles, and rumble strips.
- Communicates with other flaggers using hand-held radios to direct two-way traffic onto a single lane.
- Uses hand signals and direction signs to direct traffic around road construction sites.
- Appropriately positions warning and detour signs around the project area.
- Directs traffic at construction sites to ensure the safety of workers, pedestrians, and motorists.
- Sets up and removes traffic control devices such as cones, signs, and barricades.
- Assists in preparing construction sites by loading/unloading materials, setting braces for excavations, erecting scaffolding, and cleaning up rubble, debris, and waste.
- Operates motorized equipment including skid steers, forklifts, jackhammers, cement mixers, and asphalt heaters.
- Digs trenches, compacts earth, and backfills holes.
- Loads and unloads materials and equipment.
- Picks up trash, drainage inlet debris, tools, and equipment daily to eliminate potential hazards.
- Understands work directions and communicates effectively with job site foremen, supervisors, and fellow employees.
- Maintains constant awareness of concurrent job site activities, including other employees, contractors, and equipment operation.
- Performs all other assigned duties and responsibilities.
Requirements
- 3+ years of related general construction lead laborer experience with traffic management experience.
- Valid and current driver’s license.
- Ability to pass traffic management training courses and obtain certifications for operating motorized equipment (e.g., forklift, backhoe, front-end loader).
