General Function

The Product Development Engineer has frontline responsibility for the development of disruptive new Oakley products. Primarily focused on mechanical design, performance, and manufacturability while staying grounded in a commitment to deliver to market on time and in full.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the technical development of new eyewear models including mechanical engineering, material selection, manufacturability, technical drawings, and PLM.
  • Cook multiple projects, schedules, and tracking within a fast-paced product development environment.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams through new product introduction process from sketch to mass production.
  • Communicate project status to department manager and applicable departments.
  • Initiate continuous improvement and cost reduction programs.
  • Provide innovative solutions to overall industry challenges resulting in occasional patent grants.
  • Limited travel to international factories.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
  • 3 years relevant job experience.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with ability to interface effectively with others at all levels of the organization.
  • Well versed in injection-molded component design and processing.
  • Experience in metal and composite manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Proficient in at least one 3D CAD software package (Solidworks/ProE/Rhino/Alias).
  • Proficient in 2D drafting ANSI/ASME standards, best practices, dimensioning & tolerancing, GD&T.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Project.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate and listen effectively at all levels.
  • Self-motivated with high sense of urgency, resourcefulness and adaptability.
  • Strong customer orientation. Team work spirit and continuous improvement mind set.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous consumer hard goods development/manufacturing experience.
  • Proficiency in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles, Kaizen, DMAIC, VSM, 6 sigma, SMED. Blackbelt/greenbelt certification preferred.
  • Hands on experience with metal fabrication, prototyping, 3D printing, or machine shop experience.
  • Experience with made in the USA manufacturing.
  • PMP certification.
  • SAP experience.
  • Proficiency and prior use of relevant engineering tools; DOE, CpK, MSA, FMEA, DFM.
  • Understanding of product cost composition/structure.
  • Eyewear or action sports retail sales experience.
  • Bilingual: English + Spanish/Mandarin/Italian

Total Rewards

  • Pay Range: $95,321.58 - $131,049.40
  • Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills and local minimum wage requirements.
