About the role

Oakland Academy is searching for an Elementary Teacher to join our team.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver varied, interesting, engaging, and enjoyable lessons for students.
  • Create lesson plans that align with students' learning styles.
  • Assign homework in accordance with Oakland's homework philosophy and PLC team guidelines.
  • Offer assignments and assessments in line with four-period learning, providing frequent and timely feedback to students.
  • Review and analyze student performance data to develop plans to meet the needs of all students.
  • Maintain timely, complete, and accurate student records (e.g., Skyward).
  • Develop a curriculum aligned with State standards and educational plans like IEPs, 504 plans, and behavior plans.
  • Create a safe and nurturing environment for all students, ensuring consistency and balance.
  • Advise parents frequently about their child's performance and progress.
  • Conduct research, attend conferences, and pursue continuing education to stay updated and provide effective instruction.
  • Ensure your teaching certification is up-to-date and model being a lifelong learner.
  • Teach and model Oakland Academy's approved character education program (7 Habits).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Michigan Teaching Certification in the assigned area.
  • Pre-service experience, as required for certification.

Qualifications

  • Ability to consistently plan and deliver engaging lessons.
  • Experience in creating lesson plans aligned with students' learning styles.
  • Knowledge of Oakland's homework philosophy and ability to assign homework accordingly.
  • Experience in analyzing student performance data and developing plans to meet individual needs.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate and timely student records.
  • Experience in developing and implementing educational plans such as IEPs, 504 plans, and behavior plans.
  • Ability to create a safe and nurturing learning environment.
  • Experience in advising parents about their child's performance and progress.
  • Continuous pursuit of professional development and staying updated with current teaching methods.
  • Current teaching certification.
  • Experience with the 7 Habits character education program.

Skills

  • Effective lesson planning and delivery.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to different learning styles.
  • Strong communication skills, especially with parents.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret student performance data.
