About the role

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an Assistant Attorney General in the Texas Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, which will be cross-designated as a Special United States Attorney (SAUSA), and serve as a Trial Attorney/Prosecutor for the National Rapid Response Strike Force in the Health Care Fraud Unit of the U.S. Department of Justice, Criminal Division, Fraud Section.

This position will independently direct, conduct, and monitor investigations, prepare for and conduct trials, and advise on pleadings and other court filings. The successful candidate will be required to obtain a Top Secret federal security clearance and make a three-year commitment to the Strike Force.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Attorney General will handle the development and management of health care fraud prosecutions, engage in all phases of investigation and litigation, and make charging decisions and propose dispositions with regard to assigned cases.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Preparing and presenting complex criminal cases involving federal health care laws and regulations
• Preparing legal opinions, briefs, pleadings, motions, petitions, and other legal documents
• Preparing all phases of criminal prosecution from investigation forward, including the preparation of cases for trial, discovery, jury and bench trial, and appellate process when necessary
• Analyzing complex factual and legal issues and developing evidence through witness interviews, subpoenas, search warrants, proffers, and other legal process
• Performing legal research and reporting findings and conclusions
• Advising investigators and management on factual and legal issues
• Assisting investigators and auditors in investigations

Requirements

The successful candidate will be required to pass an extensive background investigation, including a comprehensive criminal history, employment, education, financial status, reputation, and social media check.

Applicants must also be willing to obtain a Top Secret federal security clearance and make a three-year commitment to the Strike Force.

Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for this position include graduation from an accredited law school and licensure to practice law in Texas.

Skills

The ideal candidate will have experience in handling complex criminal cases, preparing legal opinions and briefs, and analyzing complex factual and legal issues.

Strong research, writing, and communication skills are also essential for this role.
