About the role

The Office of the Attorney General's (OAG) Child Support Division (CSD) seeks Assistant Attorneys General (AAGs) to represent the State of Texas in judicial and administrative family law proceedings. The division focuses on encouraging responsible parenting and ensuring children receive necessary support.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the State of Texas at legal proceedings to establish, enforce, modify, or terminate court orders for child support and medical support.
  • Provide legal advice, consultation, and technical assistance to the Child Support Program.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions.
  • Perform related work as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree, licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with Family Law and the Texas Family Code, legal writing, mediation, and negotiation skills.
  • Experience: Full-time legal experience as a licensed attorney, one year for AAG I, two years for AAG II, three years for AAG III, and four years for AAG IV.
  • Other: Experience in handling high-volume legal practices, jury trial experience, and proficiency in Spanish.

  • Legal writing, mediation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to serve as a trial lawyer, prepare sound opinions, conduct investigations, and perform legal research.
  • Computer skills for word-processing and data entry/retrieval.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and effective decision-making abilities.
  • Cooperative teamwork and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Physical capabilities: ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs., travel up to 25%, and work more than 40 hours per week.
