NUTRITIONAL SERVICES - CAFE CASHIER

About the role

The Café Cashier will assist café customers, operate the Point of Sale cashier system, keep the café well stocked with food and supplies, maintain cleanliness, and prepare nightly deposits. The cashier will also assist in stocking and rotating the vision cooler and provide notice of items needing preparation or replacement.

Responsibilities

• Operate the Point of Sale (POS) cashier system to check out café customers, including:
  • Ring up sales and process payments by cash, credit/debit card, gift card, or employee payroll deduction
  • Issue gift cards
  • Make correct change
  • Comply with all PCI (Payment Card Industry) standards and company policies for payment card acceptance and security
• Assist café customers by:
  • Processing checkouts efficiently and courteously
  • Helping customers locate items and answering questions to promote a positive experience
  • Familiarizing guests with ordering procedures as needed
• Keep the café well stocked by:
  • Stocking café food and supplies as needed
  • Informing cooks of items that need preparation with sufficient notice
  • Keeping the vision cooler stocked and rotated
  • Changing out boxes and tanks on the soda machine and other food dispensing equipment (e.g., hot cocoa machine)
  • Rotating all food items using the First In, First Out (FIFO) method
  • Ensuring all grab-and-go items have a use-by date and removing expired items
  • Stocking and rotating condiments and disposable products (e.g., napkins, straws, to-go boxes)
  • Keeping food items in dining room vending machines well stocked and rotated
• Maintain and clean the café area by:
  • Wiping up spills and picking up trash throughout the day
  • Regularly tidying the salad and soup bar
  • Thoroughly cleaning the café and dining room areas at the end of the day, including sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing
  • Completing deep cleaning tasks as assigned
• Prepare nightly deposits at the end of each business day by:
  • Counting the till
  • Completing a daily deposit report
  • Preparing the deposit slip
  • Giving the prepared deposit to the Café Service Coordinator or Lead on duty
• If functioning as the Café Lead, additional responsibilities include:
  • Keeping the café menu boards updated and current
  • Updating the café POS registers as needed
  • Forwarding intra-department charges for items removed from the café or kitchen to the Patient Nutrition Coordinator for billing
  • Providing deposits to the courier or locking them in the safe
  • Preparing the Vending Machine Deposit Report and making deposits as outlined in department policies

Requirements

• High school graduate (or equivalent)
• Food Handler’s Permit (required within 30 days of employment)
• No previous experience required; training will be provided for the right candidate
