THE POSITION

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, teach, plan, coordinate and monitor nutrition, cooking, garden, agricultural and health education activities for students and staff; provide in-classroom presentations to students and training to personnel to encourage healthy and nutritional eating habits; coordinate communications and serve as a technical resource concerning health and nutrition.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires any combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, business administration or a related field including completion of an internship program, and one year experience in a school food service operation including some experience in menu planning and analysis
  • Valid Food Safety Manager Certification; employees must fulfill certification requirement within the first six (6) months of the probationary period.
  • Valid California driver’s license.

TESTING INFORMATION

The examination process may be comprised of multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the job description. Step 1: Application Screening (pass/fail) Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications. This portion of the examination consists of an application screening used to evaluate the applicant's education, training, and experience relevant to the position. Step 2: Qualification Appraisal Interview (weighted 100%) tentatively the week of July 28, 2026. All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list.

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, business administration or a related field, plus one year experience in a school food service operation including some experience in menu planning and analysis.
  • Licenses & Other Requirements: Valid Food Safety Manager Certification; valid California driver’s license.

BENEFITS

  • Vacation: Vacation is earned based on assigned hours. (For example: a new employee working 8 hours/day, 12-months per year will earn one vacation day per month, up to a total of twelve (12) days of vacation per year. Employees who work less than 12-months per year or less than 8 hours/day shall be entitled to a prorated share of vacation benefits as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.)
  • Sick Leave: The district provides for 1 day of illness leave per month worked, with unlimited accumulation for unused days.
  • Retirement: Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) and Social Security.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Employment Verification: The Immigration Reform and Control Act requires that the District obtain documentation from every individual who is employed which verifies identity and authorizes his/her right to work in the United States.
  • Tuberculosis Risk Assessment: All candidates with a conviction record for offenses other than minor traffic violations, must file a conviction record statement with their application. Such a conviction, or failure to report a record of convictions, may bar you from employment.
  • Fingerprinting: State law requires that all employees be fingerprinted.
  • Job Related Physical Examination: The District reserves the right to require a job related physical examination and satisfactory results from such an exam.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (Upon Offer Of Employment)

  • Education Verification: The District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria: Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification)Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position)
  • Special Arrangements: In order for appropriate arrangements to be made for testing, your request must be received at the time your application is submitted. If special arrangements are not requested at the time the application is submitted, it is understood that no special accommodations are required. Documentation on the need for accommodation must accompany your request.
