About the role

Summary Plan for, prepare, and serve the students attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of friendliness, efficiency, and cleanliness.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food according to planned menus and tested recipes.
  • Complete daily records, deposits, and money journals.
  • Determine the quantities of food to be prepared daily.
  • Communicate with kitchen employees, District staff, students, and community to arrange for and serve nutritious meals at assigned District schools.
  • Supervise and instruct kitchen personnel in the safe and proper preparation of food.
  • Supervise and instruct kitchen personnel in safe, proper, and efficient use of all kitchen equipment.
  • Order all necessary supplies in compliance with the order schedule.
  • Check in food shipments by verifying orders and signing off on invoices.
  • Check equipment to ensure it is in safe working condition and notify the Nutrition office when repairs or replacements are needed.
  • Maintain kitchen employee time records and the monthly inventory of kitchen supplies.
  • Aid with catering events scheduled in assigned building.
  • Aid with larger catering events outside of the building.
  • Attend staff development and manager meetings as offered.
  • Instruct new kitchen employees in performing their assigned tasks.
  • Evaluate the performance of all kitchen employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in food service; experience with school nutrition programs preferred.

  • English language skills.
  • Mental skills include basic calculations and application of math concepts.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Personal computer and keyboarding skills.
  • Customer service and public relations skills and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of nutrition services.
  • Knowledge of child nutrition and Health Department guidelines preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions, use time efficiently, demonstrate attention to detail, follow instructions and respond to management direction.
  • Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, and building and department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.

Pay Range: CC-5 Range, $24.96-37.78

Education and Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in food service; experience with school nutrition programs preferred.

Title IX Training

Mandatory Title IX training is required by the Colorado Department of Education and for all public-school employees. Title IX training addresses harassment, discrimination, and bullying. Completing these mandatory Title IX training courses ensure we are meeting state requirements while continuing to foster a culture of safety and belonging across our schools.

Supervisory/Technical Responsibility

This job has supervisory responsibilities. Judgement and decision making work is assigned by the supervisor. Requires independent judgment, nutrition knowledge, and supervisory skills to properly calculate needed food, ensure preparation of nutritious food, direct the work of kitchen employees, and maintain accurate records. Decision making is guided by health department, federal, and District guidelines, policies, and procedures. Decision making requires collaboration with supervisor when necessary. Errors in decision making could result in an unhealthy cafeteria environment, insufficient food supply, and errors in bookkeeping. The supervisor is occasionally involved in decision-making.

  • Cross training in one or more of the following: food preparation line, operating cash register, maintain kitchen equipment.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and regularly lift and/or move up to 25 - 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Mental Functions

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, compare, copy, and use interpersonal skills.
  • Frequently required to analyze, coordinate, and compile.
  • Occasionally required to compute, negotiate, evaluate, and instruct.
