About the role
This position will prepare and serve nutritious and attractive meals for students and staff while maintaining sanitary conditions of the school dining and kitchen facilities for all meals provided by the Nutrition Services Department.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook, wrap, and pan up food items according to standard menus, recipes and instructions.
- Complete production records and reports.
- Monitor and record food and kitchen equipment temperatures daily.
- Set up salad bars, serving tables and warming carts for serving meals.
- Assist in filling condiment containers; set up utensils, napkins, trays and other serving items before food arrives.
- Serve meals and ala carte items to students and staff; serve appropriate quantities; present foods attractively; assist students in assembling meals on trays.
- Operate the point-of-sale system for meal service and ala carte sales, receive payments and assist in cash reconciliation.
- Participate in the cleaning of the kitchen, equipment and food storage areas assuring that standards of sanitation and safety are met.
- Wash dishes and pot/pans.
- Assist in determining quantities and variety of food to be prepared in accordance to the multi-entrée, offer vs. serve, variety bar, and ala carte format.
- Assist in placing orders weekly for food items and supplies with Kitchen Manager and the Director of Nutrition Services; maintain accurate inventory records necessary to ensure supplies are available for assigned menus.
- Assist in placing food in serving carts and oven according to proper food handling procedures.
- Maintain professional attitude and appearance in the work place.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- State of Washington Food and Beverage Service Worker’s Permit issued by a County-City Health Department.
- Experience as nutrition services kitchen assistant or other related food service experience.
Qualifications
- Accurate record keeping skills.
- Skill in menu planning, food production, and serving in large quantities.
- Knowledge of sanitation and safety standards and procedures.
- Knowledge and ability in cash handling.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the public.
Skills
Requires fingerprinting and background check to determine that there have been no convictions involving physical molestation, abuse, injury or neglect of a minor. Must complete Walla Walla Public Schools Risk Management and Bloodborne Pathogens Training upon hire.
