About the role
This class is distinguished by its responsibility to plan, organize and conduct meal operation services and related recreational and informational activities for the elderly.
Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes and conducts meal operations services ensuring that an adequate number of meals are received, transported, served or delivered to the elderly participants;
- Supervises the proper distribution of food from bulk containers to individual plates and/or packing containers;
- Ensures that meal sites and/or packing centers are maintained up to set standards of safety and cleanliness;
- Accounts for the number of meals and the number of elderly served;
- Evaluates food portioning in relation to wastage and makes adjustments accordingly;
- Collections daily contributions, counts and records cash collected and prepares deposit slip for bank deposit;
- Maintains and updates master listing of elderly participants;
- Makes daily/weekly adjustments to bi-weekly home delivery route schedules as necessary;
- Recruits, trains, schedules and supervises volunteers in meal services and senior activities;
- Plans, develops and coordinates social, recreational, and educational activities with other senior program staff and staff from other public/private agencies;
- Prepares monthly calendar of activities and implements daily activities accordingly;
- Instructs elderly in various recreational and/or arts and crafts activities;
- Conducts interviews with elderly individuals and family members either in the home setting or at meal sites in order to assess individual needs and interests, determines method of meal service delivery, orient new participants to program, gather pertinent statistical and emergency data, and determine need for referrals for other support services;
- Completes written assessments on each participant;
- Maintains frequent contact with participants in order to keep informational files updated and to determine if changes in individual circumstances warrant referrals for other services;
- Participates in the planning, developing, and coordinating of program wide special events on a quarterly and annual basis;
- Arranges for transportation to special events as needed;
- Conducts assigned surveys to gather participant input on program improvements;
- Maintains storeroom inventory records, requests replenishment of supplies through the program assistant, monitors incoming deliveries and follows up on back orders and/or substitutions, packages supplies into manageable units or appropriate quantities for site operations.
Requirements
- A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year of work experience involving the supervision and/or coordination of activities in elderly programs, and/or group activities, preferably in elderly programs.
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license (equivalent to Hawaii Type 3).

- Ability to: work independently with minimal supervision; communicate with clients; relate well to people of all ethnic and socio-economic groups; organize and conduct recreational and informational activities; organize, plan and delegate work activities; provide supervision to others; understand and explain written materials; understand and interpret Federal rules and regulations; follow department and program policies and procedures; work effectively with others; follow oral and written instructions; deal tactfully and effectively with the public.

Pay
Appointment may be made at any rate within the salary range from SR-09C ($3,333) to SR-09E ($3,606) per month.
Schedule
Appointment may be made on a permanent part-time or temporary part-time basis depending on availability of funds and other relevant factors.
