Position Overview

The Spring Meadow Early Childhood Center reports directly to the School Nutrition Services Manager and/or Assistant Manager, and to the Building Principal for building-related matters. The position oversees School Nutrition personnel within their assigned kitchen.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Participate in food preparation and serving.
  • Maintain employee attendance and HACCP logs.
  • Accurately complete production records online using Health-E Pro system.
  • Maintain and manage food and supply inventory.
  • Advise managers of needs for food, supplies, equipment, repairs, and services.
  • Maintain high standards of health, sanitation, and safety.
  • Monitor and correct food temperatures using Smart Temps and Smart Sense systems.
  • Maintain kitchen and food service areas.
  • Train part-time personnel on equipment operation and other departmental issues.
  • Participate in I3 Inventory System by maintaining accurate inventory and providing information to managers.
  • Assist in providing orientation and overview of work area and responsibilities to new employees.
  • Report sick leave and personal days and ensure timely financial reports.
  • Keep managers updated and handle paperwork as needed.
  • Ensure daily cash deposits and reconcile them with paperwork.
  • Demonstrate understanding of USDA Professional Standards and acquire annual training.
  • Establish positive relationships with building principal, staff, students, and others involved in services.
  • Comply with School Nutrition and District policies and procedures.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned or directed by managers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of four units of State School Food Service training.
  • Knowledge of sanitation precautions and HACCP guidelines.
  • Certification or willingness to obtain certification for State Board of Health and District compliance.
  • Knowledge of USDA School Meal Patterns.
  • Demonstrated skill in personnel relations.
  • Previous school food service experience.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Cooperative attitude in working with various groups.
  • Personal cleanliness and knowledge of sanitation principles.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Willingness to assume additional responsibility.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly talk, express, and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Convey detailed or important instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Possess normal cognitive abilities including learning, recalling, and applying certain skills.
  • Perform work requiring sustained moderate physical effort, operate commercial food service equipment, move objects weighing 40-50 pounds, and stand continuously.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

The work is generally performed in a school kitchen and cafeteria environment.

  • Criminal background check

  • Proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver's License)
  • Documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A.
  • Completion of I-9 form
  • Completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.

Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions set forth in the negotiated contract between the Appoquinimink School District Board of Education and the Appoquinimink Food Service Workers Association.
