About the role

The Nutrition Assistant II position at Holy Cross Hospital Mountain Point is a PRN (Per Request Not Scheduled) role within the Food Service department. The position operates on a Varies schedule, with occasional on-call requirements. It is a Dietary position, requiring a strong focus on patient and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and serves food within guidelines of menu and dietary requirements using required kitchen utensils and equipment.
• Maintains knowledge of recipe ingredients to respond to food allergy questions or requests.
• Follows healthcare foodservice industry standards, regulations, guidelines and procedures including monitoring and maintaining food temperatures during cooking, holding, and storage processes.
• Avoids cross-contamination of foods and adheres to personal hygiene requirements.
• Maintains proper labeling of food products and ensures storage of food equipment, and machinery per regulations and facility guidelines.
• Fulfills therapeutic diet modifications and guidelines including allergy restrictions for all patient meal trays, nourishment, snacks and supplements.
• Prints, provides and follows production tool and/or electronic meal tallies/differentials for food preparation.
• Explains basic therapeutic diet orders and menus and responds to questions from patients and family members. Escalates additional patient nutrition questions or needs to appropriate clinical support team members.
• Collects patient food preferences and ensures compliance with prescribed diet orders. Distributes food preferences to kitchen for menu planning in a timely manner. Operates electronic diet office software and tools following established procedures and protocols.
• Navigates electronic health records to access patient diet orders and nutritional reports.
• Performs general cleaning of equipment and work areas (e.g., cleaning the tray line, equipment, coolers, office area, and emptying trash cans, etc.).
• Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.

Requirements

• One year of food service experience required.
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• If a Food Handlers Permit is a requirement by your state, county or local health code, it must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Ability to follow therapeutic diet modifications and guidelines including allergy restrictions for all patient meal trays, nourishment, snacks and supplements.
• Knowledge of electronic health records and ability to navigate them to access patient diet orders and nutritional reports.
• Ability to perform general cleaning tasks as required.

Skills

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in food preparation and serving.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to changing schedules.
• Basic computer literacy, including familiarity with electronic meal tallies and diet office software.

Pay

The posted compensation range for this position is $17.25 - $24.70 per hour, reflecting the lowest and highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
