Major Responsibilities/Activities
- Tutor students in nursing class content
- Interpret pertinent course materials such as syllabi, course/homework instructions, or any educational information that will assist in the student’s learning experience
- Facilitate student’s understanding of nursing course objectives and clarification of content
- Maintain attendance documentation of tutoring sessions
- Collaborate with faculty to develop review activities that enhance student understanding
- Maintain student confidentiality according to FERPA guidelines
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Associate degree in Nursing
- Licensure/Certification: A current Indiana RN license required
- Experience: Current knowledge of the Medical/Surgical nursing through at least 1 year of relevant work experience within the last 5 years
- Knowledge and Skills: Competence in educational principles and techniques used in higher education classrooms, laboratory and clinical settings; Knowledge of the profession including theory and practice, procedures, and regulations; Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community
- Professional Development: The Nursing Tutor is expected to demonstrate a commitment to learning and growth by fulfilling the Code of Ethics of the University and the profession; participating in activities that enhance personal and professional growth and renewal; expanding knowledge in their area of specialty on an ongoing basis; listing specific development needs they have identified annually and including a plan of action and time frame to accomplish; creating appropriate goals to accomplish annually and assess achievement at the end of the fiscal year; attending in-services as directed to update knowledge and skills.
