About the role
The Pulmonary Unit is a 36-bed telemetry unit focused on diagnosing and treating respiratory disorders. Nurses here deliver high-quality, specialized care for patients with lung diseases or injuries, collaborating with departments like respiratory therapy, physical therapy, care management, and pharmacy.
Responsibilities
- Functions as the unit-based clinical supervisor, directing staff, managing patient flow, ensuring patient safety, and optimizing resource utilization.
- Coordinates in-services, continuing education, and mentoring of clinical staff, particularly new hires.
- Participates in PI activities, collecting data to assess employee performance and participating in staff evaluations.
- Available to work weekends and holidays based on unit needs.
- Coordinates unit activities, leads daily huddles, and represents the unit at house-wide daily huddles.
- Maintains records related to orientation, in-services, and unit competency assessments.
- Ensures compliance with quality standards and regulatory agency requirements.
- Takes management call as directed.
- Facilitates bidirectional communication to ensure timely exchange of information among stakeholders.
- Treats all people fairly and with respect, fostering a positive environment for recruitment and retention.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse with current Alabama or multistate license.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Current AHA or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider training required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a registered nurse.
- Specialty nursing experience in applied area preferred.
- Must obtain ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NRP certifications within 6 months of hire.

- Must have the ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, and carry objects.
- Must possess stamina to provide 24-hour management for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
