Nursing Support Assistant, Surgical - Full-Time Nights

About the role

Under the leadership of the Manager and the Clinical Supervisor, the Nursing Support Assistant (CNA) performs assigned supportive work in connection with the delivery of patient care, including functional tasks and skills. Utilizes interactive processes to exceed the expectations of patients, physicians, families, or significant others, providing high-quality, cost-effective care and treatment. Demonstrates necessary skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to unit-specific competencies as appropriate to the age of the patients served. Performs activities that support the daily functions and operations of a patient care unit and the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic patient care activities including vital signs, enemas, and basic tests such as glucoscan, hemacult, and multistix
• Assists patients with activities of daily living, as appropriate/assigned, using proper aseptic, isolation, and infection control techniques
• Assists patients with personal hygiene, ambulation, and nourishment/fluids
• Completes procedures as assigned, such as collecting patient specimens and weighing patients
• Assists with discharge and transfer preparation of patients
• Assists in the maintenance of the patient environment: makes patient beds, tidies patient room, and prepares patient room for admission and transfer
• Assists with the maintenance of supplies/equipment and the environment
• Communicates and accurately documents activities onto the proper records or logs
• Initiates CPR and calls a Dr. Cart
• Performs receptionist duties for assigned area as requested
• Provides constant observation and documentation of activity of assigned patient

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must be listed on the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry (HCWR) as an Illinois CNA OR a nursing student who has passed the written competency exam and is listed on the HCWR
• CPR/BLS Certification
• Ability to read and write, perform simple mathematical calculations, follow oral and written instructions, and perform a variety of tasks without direct supervision
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and/or in written form
• Ability to work in partnership with management and staff
• Occasional lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs
• Moderate to extreme physical effort such as walking, standing, performing CPR, and lifting materials, equipment, objects, and/or patients may be required
• Vision, hearing, and sense of touch must be adequate to enable quick and accurate performance of tasks such as reading small print, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate oral communication
• Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputs

• Full-Time, 0.9 FTE
• Shift: Nights – 7:30pm - 7:00am
• Work Location: Onsite - Hyde Park
• Unit/Department: 3CS Surgical

Pay

The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position, based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and current market data. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications, experience, and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union (CBA Code: Union 743).
