About the role
The Nursing Support Assistant (CNA) works under the direction of the Registered Nurse in the assigned area. This role supports the delivery of patient care through various supportive tasks and skills.
Responsibilities
- Provides basic patient care activities including vital signs, enemas, and basic tests such as glucoscan, hemacult, and multistix
- Affords assistance with activities of daily living, using proper aseptic, isolation, and infection control techniques
- Assists with personal hygiene, ambulation, and nourishment/fluids
- Completes assigned procedures such as collecting patient specimens and weighing patients
- Affords assistance with discharge and transfer preparations of patients
- Maintains the patient environment by making patient beds, tidying patient rooms, and preparing them for admission and transfer
- Affords assistance with maintaining supplies/equipment and the environment
- Communicates and accurately documents activities onto the proper records or logs
- Initiates CPR and calls a Dr. Cart
- Performs receptionist duties for assigned area as requested
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be listed on the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry (HCWR) as an Illinois CNA OR a nursing student who has passed the written competency exam and is listed on the HCWR
- CPR/BLS Certification
- Ability to read and write, perform simple mathematical calculations, follow oral and written instructions, perform variety of tasks without direct supervision, and perform duties requiring continuous physical effort
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and/or in written form
- Ability to work in partnership with management and staff
- Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputs
Qualifications
- Ability to lift heavy and awkward items over 50 lbs.
- Moderate to extreme physical effort such as walking, standing, performing CPR, and lifting materials, equipment, objects, and patients may be required
- Vision, hearing, and sense of touch must be adequate to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as reading small print, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate oral communication
