This role supervises, assesses, plans, coordinates, facilitates, and evaluates patient care and staff development on the Medical/Surgical Unit-3F-Surgical Oncology (night shift). You will determine and maintain unit or program needs and standards using the nursing process and evidence-based information, while assisting the Clinical Director in managing assigned staff and patient population.

Responsibilities

• Oversee staff and ensure adequate patient care, including hiring, onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching, and developing employees.
• Establish or contribute to care plans, administer medications, manage IV lines, and provide therapies and treatments while observing and recording patient progress.
• Ensure compliance with all policies and maintain financial stewardship by managing the department budget.
• Serve as a resource to staff, patients, families, caregivers, physicians, and visitors to improve patient experience and clinical outcomes.
• Teach patients and families about illness/injury management, post-treatment care, nutrition, exercise, and medication self-administration.
• Facilitate inter/intra-departmental collaboration, communication, and problem-solving.
• Participate in policy revisions, committees, and goal/action planning for the unit.
• Contribute to recruitment and retention of staff through mentorship, education, and fostering a quality practice environment.
• Coordinate educational and professional activities related to department/unit needs.
• Conduct regular rounds with physicians, patients, or families to improve the patient experience.
• Utilize the nursing process and evidence-based practice to provide and evaluate patient care.
• Initiate and support quality improvement initiatives and use resources effectively.
• Direct staff in applying the nursing process and coordinate patient care to enhance independent functioning.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN, BScN) from an accredited NLN/CCNE institution.
• Legally licensed to work as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Arizona.
• 2 years of Registered Nurse (RN) experience required; 3 years preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification required.
• Must obtain a certification in your area of expertise within 1 year of hire or promotion for magnet standards.

All RN staff with direct responsibility for stroke patients must have knowledge of stroke symptoms, protocols, NIHSS Stroke Alert activation, stroke quality indicators, patient education materials, and community resources.
