Nursing Student - Medicine PCU - PRN

Primary Purpose

Performs specified patient care activities and basic clerical tasks under the direction of a Registered Nurse and is committed to the provision of patient centered/patient valued care.

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIOS

• Education: Must be currently enrolled and maintain enrollment in an accredited nursing school with proper documentation of basic fundamentals of nursing (ex. Transcript, grade report, etc.). Effective 5/12/2023, current incumbents in transition to a nurse residency program may remain in this role while obtaining their RN license and being placed into a program. This is not to exceed 6 months from date of graduation.
• Experience: None.
• Certification/Registration/Licensure: Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following: American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Military Training Network.
• Skills or Special Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and possess good oral and written communication skills. Works well under stress and in emergency situations. Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.

Responsibilities

• Performs specified patient care activities, under the direction of a Registered Nurse, including providing basic hygiene care, unsterile treatments, taking vital signs, and range of motion exercises.
• Lifts, ambulates, and feeds patients in accordance with the provision of patient centered/patient valued care, while providing optimal care services to patients and their families.
• Serves as a patient advocate by responding to a patient's needs and special requests.
• Maintains open communication, and honors patient's rights and confidentiality, while providing optimal service to patients and their families.
• Makes appropriate notations and records activities performed, such as vital signs, patient ambulation, feeding outcomes, etc. in accordance with standards established by the nursing unit.
• Monitors ongoing patient status and responds to a patient's change in condition by notifying and assisting nurses and other health team members in handling patient care needs.
• Maintains, updates, and utilizes knowledge of sanitation, infection control, safety, supplies and equipment usage to optimize customer care and services.
