Nursing Station Technician-PACU
About the role
The University of Minnesota Medical Center is seeking Nursing Station Technicians to join their perianesthesia team. This position is a 0.8 FTE (64 hours per 2 week pay period), 8 hour day/evening shift and rotates weekends. The schedule includes a 50% day and 50% evening shift, alternating weeks, with start times ranging from 0445 to 1500. The department provides care for same-day surgery patients, inpatients, and surgical admits.
Responsibilities
- Work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to provide excellent customer service, teamwork, and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fast-paced unit.
- Perform patient care tasks such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding.
- Maintain unit desk area functions including answering phones, processing admissions, discharges, and transfers, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts, and ordering tests.
- Set up and maintain patient rooms and order and stock supplies.
Requirements
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required.
- Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
- Six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care, or acute care setting.
- Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program with completion of one semester of clinical rotation within the program.
- Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.
Qualifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required.
- Ontrack participants must be able to obtain BLS for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
- One of the following successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
- Or six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care or acute care setting.
- Or current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.
- Or current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.
Skills
Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or other related experience is preferred.

Pay
The posted compensation range corresponds to the minimum and maximum pay rates outlined in your union agreement for the respective job classifications at the time of job posting. An individual's pay rate within this range may be influenced by various factors including FTE, skills, knowledge, educational background, and qualifying experience as specified in the contract. If your role is eligible for a sign-on bonus, the bonus program that is approved and in place at the time of offer will be honored.
