About the Role

The Viner ICU is a 30-bed intensive care unit specializing in the care of adult, acutely ill patients in an academic setting. The ICU offers state-of-the-art care with innovative technology and lifesaving interventions. The highly specialized multidisciplinary team is committed to providing expert care to the sickest patients in the region, including those needing ECMO, cardiac surgery, interventional pulmonary care, and other lifesaving treatments. The ICU has received the "Family Centered Care Innovation Award" and the "2022 ICU Hero’s Award" from the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM).

Responsibilities

  • Support patients’ activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, hygiene, mobility, transport) and follow standard precautions.
  • Perform technical duties as directed by RN (phlebotomy, vital signs, point-of-care testing, EKGs, Foley catheter care) and document appropriately.
  • Identify and communicate changes in patient status to RN and respond appropriately, maintaining safe patient practices.
  • Reinforce education for patients and families regarding care needs and safety.
  • Participate in patient satisfaction initiatives, performance improvement activities, and assist in orienting new hires.
  • Complete annual hospital and unit-specific competencies by the required due date.
  • Consistently adhere to safety protocols and quality standards to ensure a safe environment and high-quality patient care.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills for interacting with patients, visitors, and coworkers.

Requirements

  • 0-2 years’ experience required.
  • Able to complete phlebotomy and EKG training if not part of the fundamentals of nursing course or within 90 days of hire (training offered through orientation).
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Successful completion of Fundamentals of Nursing course with clinical in an accredited nursing program and maintain active enrollment in nursing school.
  • AHA Basic Life Support certification.
  • Completed at least one fundamental nursing course with clinical in an accredited nursing program and maintain active enrollment in nursing school.

Schedule

PRN position requiring a minimum of 4 shifts in a 6-week schedule. Hours: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, including weekend and holiday rotation.
