About the role
The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner at The Hospital of Central Connecticut is a Register Nurse with specialized expertise in influencing professional role competence and growth of learners.
Responsibilities
- Supports learners within the context and framework of the Nursing Professional Development, Scope and Standards practice as approved by the American Nurses Association.
- Works in collaboration with nursing leadership to foster and influence competency management, clinical nursing education, professional role development, policy standardization, collaborative partnerships, scientific inquiry, transition to practice and onboarding/orientation of new colleagues.
- Promotes the alignment of regional NPD and practice excellence with the HHC system as a whole.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required and enrolled in a Master’s program with degree completion within two years of hire date.
- Minimum of 3 years of active clinical nursing experience, including at least 1 year in an acute care environment.
- One year of relevant teaching experience preferred, with experience in nursing professional development and/or specialty areas preferred.
- Experience as a preceptor.
- Licensed Registered Nurse from the CT DPH obtained prior to hire date.
- NPD or Clinical Specialty Certification within two years of hire.
Qualifications
- Demonstrates ability to develop, deliver and evaluate educational programs.
- Working knowledge of high reliability and LEAN process improvement strategies.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to education as a methodology for promoting continuous quality improvement in the delivery of patient care and services.
- Knowledge of the principles/theories of adult learning.
- Knowledge of unit based orientation plans.
- Strong skills in the process of educational needs assessments.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and strong skills in Excel.
