Duties & Responsibilities

  • Directs, facilitates and coordinates activities related to academic policies, personnel policies, resources, facilities, services, and program evaluation with the Nursing Program.
  • Determines and oversees short- and long-term direction and activities; plans and prepares program budgets, financial and related reports and funding proposals.
  • Evaluates, improves, and develops curriculum in alignment with the institutions strategic goals.
  • Represents the institution at State and other external forums.
  • Supports faculty in curriculum planning and mapping, classroom instruction planning and evaluation, syllabus preparation and problem solving.
  • Prepares performance appraisals for staff and faculty, and participates in professional development planning activities.
  • Counsels student applicants.
  • Interviews and counsels student applicants.
  • Understands and uses campus and corporate reporting systems appropriately and efficiently.
  • Initiates and administers student recruitment and retention efforts related to the Nursing Program, including advising prospective students, directing candidate orientation, and scheduling and administering assessment examinations.
  • Disseminates and analyzes reports and data from faculty related to the assessment of student learning to include attendance, failing grades, SLOAs, Program Review, accreditation reports etc.
  • Maintains Program evaluation Plan.
  • Directs and oversees positive accreditation standards with ACEN to ensure alignment with the NM State Board of Nursing requirements.
  • Engages in, supports and fosters a culture of assessment in alignment with the institution's strategic goals, mission, vision and accreditation standards.
  • Engages in annual evaluation of all Nursing staff and faculty.
  • Monitors student enrollment levels and diversity.
  • Initiates referrals and oversees departmental grievance procedures.
  • Participates in institutional, professional and other internal committee activities.
  • Establishes and maintains extemal professional contacts and relationships.
  • Conducts ongoing research to maintain currency in health care delivery systems, practices, treatments, drugs, technology, etc.
  • Reports to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services all operations and concerns of the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Budget development and administration.

  • Strong leadership skills to include administrative and supervisory skills.
  • Adult learning theory, curriculum development and classroom presentation techniques.
  • Counseling and advising methods and techniques.
  • Research methodology and information resources related to nursing practices and health care delivery.
  • Program development, administration and evaluation.
  • Skill in the delivery of nursing care and services.
  • Able to supervise students in clinical settings.
  • Able to prepare and present classroom lectures.
  • Proficient in the use of standard office equipment, including personal computer and standard office software.

Work Environment And Physical Factors

  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Sits most of the time.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading and visual inspection.
  • The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
  • This position is not a remote position and serves the college from the Las Vegas, New Mexico campus.

Education, Experience And Licenses

  • Master of Science degree in Nursing is required.
  • At least three years of clinical experience is required.
  • At least one year of experience teaching in an educational institution and experience in curriculum development and nursing administration is required.
  • Must be Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of New Mexico.
